Charles Curtis' Obituary
Charles G. Curtis joined his Heavenly Father Saturday, April 1st, 2017 while residing at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice Center. He was born on August 10th, 1926 to George and Marie (Smith) Curtis in Chicago, IL. Chuck was predeceased in death by his wife Estelle Newsum Curtis, survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws Bill and Sarah Curtis, Jim and Jan Curtis, grandchildren Warren, Estelle, Doug, Lyndsay Murphy (Michael) and long time friend and caregiver Kay Dixon Strawn. Chuck joined the Unied States Navy in 1944 serving aboard the Battleship USS New Jersey in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He received a Honorable Discharge in 1946 as Seaman First Class. He entered College at Beloit in Wisconsin and received a Business Degree. Chuck moved to Memphis, TN in the early 1950’s becoming involved in the travel business and started A&I Travel which became the premier agency in Memphis for decades. He supported and was a member of numerous organizations including; Second Presbyterian Church, Memphis Rotary Club, Crescent Center, University Club, SKAL, Lifetime CTC designation with ICTA, API/Virtuoso founding member and a Life Long Memphis State/University of Memphis Tiger supporter. Chuck devoted years to being a member of the Second Presbyterian Choir, serving on the Board of Memphis Rotary Club, Travel and Airline National Groups. Visitation will be held at Second Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 5 from 10:00AM-11:00AM with the service to follow immediately at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be sent to St. Jude Childrens’ Hospital, Memphis rotary Club, Second Presbyterian Music Department or University of Memphis Athletic Scholarship Fund.
