Charles Craig Smith's Obituary
Heaven gained a guardian on Friday, January 2, 2015, as Charles Craig Smith, age 56, retired Investigator with the Shelby County Sheriff’s office passed away after courageously fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma.Craig died peacefully at Methodist Hospice Residence, cared for by the most attentive staff anyone could wish for at this most sacred and precious time of life and of death. He was surrounded by family and friends as our Heavenly Father called him home. He was a graduate of Ridgeway High School, where he played any and all sports possible, and Middle Tennessee State University, where he proudly played football and ran track. Craig served 26 years with the Shelby County Sheriff’s office and proudly served the community where he grew up. He was an avid photographer since high school, and loved all things Harley Davidson, including his most precious possession – His bike. Craig was also an avid sportsman, competing in the World Police and Fire Games. He was a lifetime member of the Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club and was actively involved with the group in community service and the brotherhood of law enforcement. He was an animal lover and friend to anyone in need. He was loved by anyone that had the good fortune to cross his path. Craig is survived by his wife of 18 years, Gina Lee Smith of Arlington, one son Ryan Smith and his wife Kristina of Bartlett, step daughter, Kyndall Covington, and one grandchild, Aiden Smith also of Bartlett. Craig is also survived by his parents, Dr. Charles N. Smith of Memphis, Mrs. Eleanor Moore and her husband Roger of Shreveport, LA, three siblings Cheri Smith Mullins of Houston Texas, Carey Smith Bragg of Collierville, Chris Smith of Memphis, and 7 nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, January 5 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6 at Hope Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
