Charles "Phil" Cheatham's Obituary
C. Phillips (Phil) Cheatham, M.D., age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on October 12, 2010. He had overcome numerous illnesses and was now living the abundant life, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 and a funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Cheatham was born to Algie G. and Ottis Phillips Cheatham on January 31, 1931 in Jackson, Tennessee. He was educated in the Jackson Schools, graduating from Jackson High in 1948. Further studies were at George Washington University while he was stationed at Washington D.C. in the navy, and University of Tennessee and University of Tennessee Medical School. Phil’s home base was Germantown and he piloted his plane to surrounding cities in his Radiology Practice. His interests were family, travel, reading, fishing, hunting, golf, and classical music. Phil accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at age 12. He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Adrienne Freeman Cheatham, his son, Charles Phillips Cheatham, Jr., and his brother, A.G. Cheatham, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are sons Ben Cheatham of Eads, TN and Dr. “Chuck” Cheatham (Michelle) of Germantown; daughters Leigh Cromwell (Kyle) of Germantown and Lauren Culpepper (Ed) of Collierville; grandchildren Christen (Ricky) Culpepper Lundgren, Adrienne and Ashley Culpepper, Elizabeth and Steven Cromwell, Nathan, Christopher, Caleb and Mallory Cheatham; sister Betty Brown (Leonard) of Jackson, TN. Phil was best known as a friend and encourager, both in his medical practice and in his personal relationships. He was well respected in his family and community, touching lives, strengthening those around him, and living life deeply.
