Charles O'Donel Campbell Jr.'s Obituary
Charles O’Donel Campbell, Jr. (Don) was born in Memphis, TN on September 22, 1942, and passed away on April 12, 2024. He was 81 years of age. Don was born to the late Charles O. Campbell and Marie Rowland Campbell.
Don loved his family and friends. He is survived by his cherished wife; Peggy Dean Newton Campbell, 2 sons; James Lee Campbell, Sr. (Selena), and Bryan O’Donel Campbell (Sheri), one brother, Larry T. Campbell of Miami, FL, 5 grandchildren; Lauren Campbell, Corey Campbell, Natalee Campbell, Connor Campbell and James Campbell, Jr., He was preceded in death by one son, Chrisopher Glenn Campbell.
He graduated from Kingsbury High School in 1960. His first job was with Sheet Metal Local #4 in Memphis, TN, which he held for 20 years. Don had several successful businesses. He owned and operated Pro-Am Bowling and Trophy Supply, Campbell’s Crossroads Restaurant and the Aristocrat Restaurant, Good News Paint and Body Shop and Wrecker Service, and was a Licensed General Contractor and owned River City Re-Builders.
Other accomplishments were that he was mediator and arbitrator for the Memphis Better Business Bureau and while there he was the first person certified by the State of Tennessee as an arbitrator. He also provided his services to the general public.
Don was a devoted Christian with unshakeable faith in God. God gave him a wonderful dry sense of humor.
Don was very proud of his military career where he was in Vietnam from March 1967 to March 1968. He was awarded many metals to include the Bronze Star of Valor, the Purple Heart, the Army Accommodation Metal, the Good Conduct Metal, National Defense, and Vietnam Service with three stars and the Vietnam Campaign. He was most proud of the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Tuesday, April 23 followed by funeral services at 2:30 pm all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
