Charles W. Anthony's Obituary
Charles W. Anthony “Charlie” 93 passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was a pillar of support for his family and friends and served his country and fellow man. He was born February 8, 1921 to Maggie and William Anthony near Collierville, TN. Growing up in the depression era, he worked in his family’s businesses. Volunteering for military service in 1942, he served in the Army with distinction in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and participated in liberating a concentration camp. After the war he married his sweetheart, Lorene Harris. He attended Memphis State University and retired from Memphis Furniture Manufacturing after many years as a supervisor. A 50 year+ mason and devoted member of Audubon Park Baptist Church, Charlie loved warm days at the beach, outdoor gardening activities, restoring old furniture and most importantly traveling with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lorene Harris Anthony, daughters, Barbara Anthony Walker (Joe), Beverly Anthony and Brenda Anthony Weaver. Grandchildren: Brad Walker, Mary Elizabeth Walker, Amy Weaver Wilkins, and Lee Weaver. Great Grandchildren: Emily Wilkins, Kimberly Faith Wilkins, Alex Wilkins, Austin Weaver, Jacob Wilkins, Ella Walker, Patton Walker, Cassilyn Weaver.Visitation will be Monday, March 24th from 12:00–1:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. with service to follow visitation. Private graveside service to follow the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers any memorials to Audubon Park Baptist Church or charity of donor’s choice.
