Charlene Pilgrim's Obituary
Charlene Woods Pilgrim passed away early Tuesday morning, July 16,2019. Born April 2, 1927 to Thomas and Kate Woods, she grew up in Kosciusko, MS. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University as was her husband, Clark S. Pilgrim, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1982. She worked as a substitute teacher in Memphis City Schools and served as bookkeeper for the Billy Graham Crusade in the 1970’s. Her devotion to family was obvious in her love of large Sunday dinners and birthday or holiday celebrations; for her “more truly was merrier”. She was a tireless hostess to relatives traveling to Memphis for fun or health care. Charlene was a charter member of “The Sew and Sews” in the early 1960’s-a group of like-minded ladies sharing church affiliations, family ages, and similar school districts. Their interests included crafts and needlework, practical jokes, good food, sweet desserts, and raising families. Her love of flowers drew her into her yard to enjoy colorful blooms and the hummingbirds they attracted. As a member of Second Baptist Church visits from her church family brightened her days and encouraged her spirit during her recent years in assisted living. She leaves 2 children, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with another on the way. Her son, Clark S. Pilgrim, Jr (Steve), of Memphis and wife Julia Pilgrim have three daughters, Katie Logan of Alcoa, TN, Angela Osborne of Trussville, AL and Virginia Ramey of Memphis. Charlene’s daughter, Dr. Paula Pilgrim of Collierville,TN and husband Stephen Harris have a daughter, Blair Mize of Collierville, TN and son, Owen Harris of Memphis
