Charlene M. Kalb's Obituary
Charlene M. Kalb, 87, passed away on August 26, 2022.
She was born Mary Charlene McCain on December 23, 1934 to Charles and Eunice McCain in Brinkley, AR and raised in Humboldt, TN. Charlene graduated from Memphis State University, and after graduation married Robert L. Kalb on November 11, 1956. After working for the Federal Government as one of the first female computer programmers for several years, she became a stay-at-home Mom.
An avid sports fan, she was a long-time season ticket holder of both University of Memphis Tigers and Lady Tigers basketball.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. You could always count on finding her in the stands for her sons and grandkids sporting events, plays and graduations.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert L. Kalb; her two sisters, Betty Layton and Marie Elgin; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from her husband’s family.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles. E. Kalb and John R. Kalb (Muffy); her grandson, Jacob R. Kalb; two granddaughters, Erin E. Sewell (Benjamin), Mary Anna Kalb; her brother-in-law, Larry Elgin (Jane); along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Memorial Park Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Baptist Reynold Hospice House for the outstanding care and attention she received the last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.
