Celestine Black's Obituary
A new day began on August 8, 2017. God called home one of his beloved children, Celestine Black. She gently closed her eyes at Methodist Germantown Hospital. God saw that she was weary, so He did what He knew best. Celestine was born April 25, 1924 to the late Hannibal and Mamie Abram. On August 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to the late George Atwood Black, who preceded her in death. To this union two children were born, Carolyn and Irvin (Sid). Celestine spent her entire life as a dedicated homemaker. She was loved for her witty personality, giving spirit, and phenomenal cooking. Celestine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi. She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Carolyn Levy (Alvin); one son, Irvin Black (Amy) both of Memphis, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Andre’ Davis (Heather), Adria Davis, Sidney Black (Angela) and Lashunda Black-Tyler all of Memphis, Tennesee; seven great-grandchildren, Xavier Beard, Brandon Beard, Madison Tyler, Cameron Tyler, Sidney Black Jr., India Black and Andrea Murphy; one sister, Eva Davis of Memphis, Tennessee; two nieces; Beulah Hudson of Salisbury, Maryland and Emma Jean Miller of Memphis, Tennessee and a host of family, friends and extended grandchildren; for she was known as “Grandma” to so many people. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
