Cecil L. Springfield's Obituary
Cecil Lomax Springfield, Jr., 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2017. Lomax was born May 31, 1924, the eldest of three brothers, to C.L. Springfield Sr., and Mildred White Springfield, both of Memphis. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Lomax Jr. grew up in Germantown and graduated from Germantown High School in 1942. He began training as a pilot of B-24 bombers in 1943 for the U.S. Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force. During WWII, Lomax flew multiple missions over Italy and Germany, attaining the rank of captain, and was awarded two Air Medals as well as a Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. After the war, Lomax enjoyed a successful career with E.L. Bruce Co., which later included the Terminix pest control company. Lomax managed the national fleet operations of Terminix, and, at retirement, was honored for his 35 years of service. During his retirement, Lomax enjoyed his favorite hobby of building and flying radiocontrolled model airplanes, and was active in his local flying club. Lomax is survived by his son and daughter, Rusty Springfield and Betsy Lindstrom; a brother, James F. Springfield; Inga Burkett, a loved and dear companion; five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., on Saturday July 1, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, and services will follow at 10:00 am. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
