Catherine Barner Strub's Obituary
Catherine Louise Barner (Kitty) Strub joined her Savior in Heaven on July 24, 2026. She was 88.
The Celebration of Life Service will be at 2pm on July 31, 2026 at Memorial Park.
A reception will follow in the Event Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Strub, whom she married on June 28, 1959 and sister Carolyn Mc Dougal. She is survived by her son Scott Strub, daughter Sally Mason (John), granddaughter Catherine, and sister Mary Margaret Burrows, all of Memphis. She is also survived by nieces Becky Carlisle and Carla Nichols, Memphis; Linda Lane, Franklin, TN, and Janet Cozzens, Germantown; and nephews Barry Mathis and Ken Mathis, both of Memphis.
Kitty was born November 7, 1937 in Memphis, daughter of the late Carl A. Barner and Ella Mc Neely Barner. She graduated from Treadwell High School in 1955 where she was Miss Tradwell, Football Queen, and a member of the Prayer Meeting Group. She earned a degree in Physical Education at Memphis State University in 1959 where she was in Who's Who, the Hall of Fame, cheerleader, Sigma Kappa Sorority rush chairman, and KA Sweethearts Club. In 1979, she achieved a Masters in Health at MSU.
Mrs. Strub's 34 year teaching career included schools in Springfield, Illinois and Memphis. She was also elementary P.E. Teacher on TV Station WOSU in Columbus, Ohio for two years. She earned certification as a Career Ladder III teacher. Her presentations to various professional teacher organizations included the national conference of the American Association of Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance in St. Louis in 1997.
Kitty's greatest joys in life were her Christian faith and her family. Kitty and Dick served God at Second Presbyterian Church in the areas of evangelism, Christian education, New Member/Inquirers Classes, visitor relations and Sunday School. Kitty later joined Crossroads Baptist Church. She was very active in Treadwell reunion activities and the Shelby County Republican Party.
