Catherine Maddux's Obituary
Catherine Maddux died on March 31, 2009. Catherine was born to John Edwin and Willie May Edmonson Maddux on April 12, 1912 in Como, MS.Catherine was a graduate of Central High School in Memphis and Miss Bonavita’s Secretarial School. As a keypuncher at Standard Oil, she rose to the position of Supervisor of the Keypunch division. Following retirement, she loving cared for her mother and upon her mother’s passing; Catherine began a second career as a keypunch at Memphis State University. She was devout Christian and an active member at Westminster where she was Superintendent of the Primary Department. Miss Catherine blessed the lives of many children with her love and wonderful story telling. She was also active at Emmanuel and First Presbyterian Churches. She holds the distinction of being the first female elders to serve in the Memphis Presbytery.Catherine leaves her sisters, Willie May Johnston and Fanelle Maddux, her niece Mary Miesse and her nephew Dr. H.S. Johnston, Jr. She also leaves a great niece, Catherine Pensak, three great nephews, Michael J. Patterson, David R. Patterson and Christopher S. Miesse, three great-great nieces, Nadine Pensak, Lucie Pensak and Grace Patterson. She also leaves two great-great nephews, Pearce Patterson and Noah Patterson, all of whom considered themselves blessed to have known her.Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 3, 2009 with Graveside services following at 12:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church located at 166 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, TN, 38103.
