Carrie Louise Mitchell's Obituary
Carrie Louise Mitchell, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Cordova, TN on Sunday morning November 24, 2019.Carrie was the devoted wife to her late husband Frank Edward Mitchell Sr, and the loving mother to her four children. Sons Frank E. Mitchell Jr., Steven Lamar Mitchell, Donald Stuart Mitchell and a daughter Carole Ann Smart. Two daughters-in-law Paula Mitchell and Susan Zuker, and a son-in-law Malcolm Smart and a grandson-in-law Wes Sisk.In addition to her four children, Carrie was also the grandmother to Daniel Stuart Mitchell of Dunedin FL, Patrick Cory Mitchell of Collierville TN and Natalie Sisk of Germantown TN. She was also the great grandmother of Tyler and Hanna Sisk of Germantown TN.Carrie was born in her family home in Ripley TN on November 23,1926, and was the only child of Alton and Annie Keltner. The family moved to Memphis in the early 1930s where Carrie attended school and graduated from Humes High School. While in high school, she was affectionately known as ‘Peanut’ among her friends because of her diminutive size. It was during this time that she met Frank Mitchell, her future husband. Frank served in the Navy during the second world war, and upon his return, both he and Carrie were married and began their lives together in Memphis raising their growing family. Both attended Memphis State University while at the same time working and raising small children.During the 1950s and ’60s, Carrie and her family lived in several major Southern cities while her husband Frank worked in executive positions with several automobile manufacturers. After Frank’s untimely accidental death in 1969, Carrie remained in Memphis with her children. Carrie was always resourceful and began pursuing a career in real estate and eventually had her own business offering fine clothing alterations and tailoring. She retired in the 2000s and enjoyed her remaining years dancing with her friends at Holly Hills Country Club and spending time with all of her children and grandchildren.A small visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave Wednesday, November 27 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
