Carolyn Jean Curren's Obituary
Carolyn Jean (Patten) Curren, 86, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on
Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Desoto Healthcare Center in Southaven, MS.
Jean was born in Morral, Ohio on August 3, 1937, to the late Forrest M. Patten and Nadine L.
(Carpenter) Patten. She graduated from Johnsville High School in 1956. On February 7, 1957,
in Edison, Ohio, she married Gayland C. “Sonny” Curren who preceded her in death on July 22,
2001 with whom she shared forty-four happy years together.
Jean was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved friend to
many, including canines. Born with a sweet tooth, Jean enjoyed joking and visiting with her
family while enjoying the occasional slice of cake or pint of ice cream. She was well-known for
her excellent memory and witty retorts.
For most of her life, Jean lived in Marion, OH and worked at the family owned Curren’s Service
Center. She was a member of Fite Memorial Baptist Church in Ohio where she actively served
the children’s ministry. In 2014, Jean moved closer to her family in the Memphis, TN area,
where she was a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Memphis.
Jean is survived by her two sons Jeff L. Curren and wife Diane (Rayner) of Marion, OH and
Kevin L. Curren and wife Carol (Shaffer) of Olive Branch, MS; six grandchildren: Leigh Morgan
and her husband Pete, Michelle White and her husband David, Mercedes Curren, Seth Curren
and his wife Katie, Noah Curren and Olivia Curren; and her great granddaughters: Winsome
White and Bonnie Curren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN. 38119, on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Mt. Gilead, Ohio at Rivercliff Cemetery.
