Caroline Morris Simpson's Obituary
Caroline Morris Simpson peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House where she has been a patient for the last 10 months. Born on February 10, 1938, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Morris of Fort Gaines, GA. Upon graduating in 1956 from Clay County High School with a class of 12, she received her Associate in Arts degree from Stevens College in Columbia, MO, attended Florida State University, and graduated from the School of Medical Technology at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. She accepted a job with Linden Labs in Atlanta. She met her soulmate, Jon Simpson, on a blind date. He was stationed at Fort Benning, serving as a captain in the Army Dental Corp. They were married on November 28, 1964. Upon completion of his service, Caroline and Jon moved to Memphis, Jon’s home. Together they worked to establish his dental practice. Caroline was an integral part of that practice as the office manager, overseeing billing and general operations along with helping to create a sense of family among their staff. In addition to her efficiency, her kindness and warm welcome were important in building their successful practice.
A source of great joy for Caroline and Jon was their home at Pickwick, which they called “The Cabin”. Weekends were spent at the lake where they welcomed family, friends, and their dental staff to enjoy time together.
Caroline and Jon where members of Bellevue Baptist Church and of its Adult Sunday School Ministry. In their small group gatherings, they made deep and lasting friendships. Friends from those groups were faithful in her care and attention during her illness.
Though born in Georgia, Caroline’s blood was Crimson Red. Nothing gave her more joy than fall weekends watching her beloved Crimson Tide play football. Her Hospice room reflected that loyalty and a wreath of her door signaled victory.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marianne Morris, and her husband Jon A. Simpson. She is survived by her son, Grant Simpson (Michelle Shaver), her brother Raymond Morris, Jr. (Nancy Morris), and her sister in law Beth Simpson.
The family is grateful to Caroline’s caregiver, Etheline Craig, whose faithful and loving care sustained her over the months with illness, and Jeff Howard, Pastoral Care Pastor at Bellevue, whose visits twice a week brought comfort and encouragement. Caroline’s grace and courage and were an inspiration to everyone, none more than the nurses and staff at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House who grew to love her. The family’s gratitude to them is immeasurable.
The visitation will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum.
