Born in Mobile, Alabama on July 29, 1928, Caroline’s family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee where she attended Snowden School and Central High School. She continued to pursue her education at the University of Alabama, and after four years returned to Memphis as a Chi Omega, medical assistant, and sweetheart to Mr. Thomas Vester Gilbert, Jr. They wed on June 14, 1952 and thus began a legacy of love that remains within the Gilberts’ four children and eleven grandchildren. She is being welcomed at The Gates of Heaven by her beloved Tom, older sister Clara, and her loving mother and father Leila and Postel Witsell. When Caroline was not opening her Shady Grove Terrance home and pool to family, friends, Garden Club, and Bridge Club, she spent her time volunteering with Les Passees and LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
