Carol Smith's Obituary
Carol Johnson Smith, age 71, passed away on July 31, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Chattanooga, TN to Arthur. M. (Charlie) Johnson and Louise Buchignani Johnson who preceeded her in death. Carol leaves behind her daughters Tish Smith Creager and Michelle Smith Musolf (Paul) and her sister and best friend, Jean Johnson Houston. She also leaves her beloved nephews, Chris, David, Michael and Patrick Houston and their families. In early childhood, Carol’s family moved to Memphis and soon became founding members of St. Louis Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy and Memphis State University. After college Carol taught in the Memphis Public School system until her daughters were born. Eventually, Carol re-entered the workforce first employed by United Inns and retired from EdR. Carol, affectionately known as Caddy by her family and friends, will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all. Family came first and she delighted in the many years of love and laughter with them. Caddy was a devoted Tigers basketball fan and for years never missed attending home games. She enjoyed daily Mass, traveling, reading, “getting her hands dirty” gardening and feeding the hummingbirds. We would like to thank our family and friends for making our journey so much easier. Visitation will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on August 5, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. A private burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery’s Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Monastery of St. Clare, 1310 Dellwood Ave, 38127, St. Louis Catholic Church, Monsignor Paul W. Clunan Endowment Fund, 203 S. White Station Rd, 38117 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
