Carol K. Jones' Obituary
Carol Keaton Jones (April 4, 1942 – February 18, 2015), passed away after a three-year bout with brain cancer. She was born in Speedway, WV, graduated from Concord College, and earned her MA degree from Hood College in Frederick Maryland.She was married to Dr. Ron Jones who has served as president of Memphis College of Art since 2010. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage this year and shared life together in Virginia, West Virginia, Phoenix, Texas, and Tampa before moving to Memphis.Carol’s professional career began as a teacher in West Virginia, then Virginia and Phoenix, and for 26 years she served as a supervisor of career and technical education in western Maryland. While living in Texas she served as coordinator of career and technical education for East Texas, working out of Angelina College. She served the community of Tampa, FL as a realtor.She is survived by her husband, Ron, their son Chris and his wife Sarah, her sister Mary, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents Obadiah and Dora Keaton and twelve siblings. All who knew her agree that she was an excellent cook and one who had a passion to entertain. Carol was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral.Visitation will be held on February 28 from 10:30am to 11:30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery with the funeral and interment following.In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Hospice (6400 Shelby View Rd, Memphis, TN 38124) or St. Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral (700 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38105) or Memphis College of Art (1930 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104).Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
