Carol Henderson's Obituary
Carol Clark Johnson Henderson, 84, passed away June 7, 2018. She was born on March 6, 1934 in Augusta, Georgia. Her family moved to Memphis when she was in elementary school. She attended Snowden Elementary and Central High School. She went on to University of Memphis (then Memphis State University) where she received a degree in elementary education. While there, she served as President of Phi Mu sorority. She met the love of her life, Al Henderson, at First Baptist Church where they both attended. One of her greatest joys was teaching children to read, especially her precious boys at Presbyterian Day School. After retirement Carol volunteered with the Women’s Exchange, The Salvation Army, and librarian at First Baptist Church. She was an active member of PEO. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 64 years, Al; her daughters Laurie Henderson and Ashley Henderson McHugh; her grandchildren, Stephen McHugh, Jr. (Mac) and Margaret McHugh, and her grand dog, Cody. She also leaves her twin sister, Anne Johnson Bowen Martin, numerous nieces and nephews, and many adoring former students. Memorials may be made to Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home and the First Baptist Church library. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 11 and visitation will follow from 11 a.m. until 12 Noon, all at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
