Carlos Espinosa's Obituary
Carlos “Mr. E” Manuel Espinosa, 86, passed away on May 24, 2024. He was born in Havana, Cuba on February 5,1938 to Carlos Manuel Espinosa and Esther Espinosa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Juan Espinosa. He is survived by two nephews, Jose Espinosa of Sevilla Spain and Juan Carlos of Havana, Cuba.
As a Catholic brother, he left Havana for Panama after Fidel Castro deported the Catholic priests and brothers. Soon afterwards he left Panama for Memphis to attend Christian Brothers University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He moved to Elkart Indiana and taught at Elkhart Indiana Community Schools. There he met his wife Lillian while attending Notre Dame receiving three master’s degrees. They moved to Memphis where he taught Spanish in the Memphis City Schools. Carlos was at White Station High School for many years and at Southwest Community College of where he taught Math and Spanish.
Carlos was very active in the NEA and chaired the Human Rights relations Committee in the 70’s and 80’s.
The visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
