Carl Thomas Younger, MD
Carl Thomas Younger, was a loving and compassionate Husband, Father, and Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. He left the world to be with the Lord on June 5, 2023.
He was born on October 8, 1954, in Jackson, Tennessee. After graduating High School, he moved to Memphis at the age of 18 to attend the University of Memphis. At U of M, he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After finishing College, Carl attended Medical School at the University of Tennessee Memphis (UTHSC), where he was awarded a Medical Doctors degree.
After completing Medical School, he worked for the Memphis and Shelby County Health Department outpatient clinics as a Primary Care Physician for almost 20 years. There he mentored numerous medical students during their rotations. Carl loved helping people, and he was also a volunteer doctor for The Church Health Center for almost 10 years. He had many awards in his medical career, but he was most proud of becoming a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Carl was very involved at his local church Union Avenue Baptist. He was a devout Christian, a Deacon, and a regular attendee in his church. In fact, he was at service every Sunday, regardless of the situation.
He had many hobbies which he passed on to his family members. He loved to create detailed models and dioramas. He was passionate about US history, Memphis Tigers Sports, golf, and cooking on a charcoal grill. He could cook a mouthwatering steak. Carl loved to play golf. He enjoyed playing 18 holes with his three brothers, and in his later years his son. His crowning achievement in golf was shooting an Eagle on hole 7 at the Overton Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene (Genie); son, Matthew (Matt); granddaughter, Madison, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Friday June 9, 2023, with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
