Earl was an awesome athlete, you could tell by the way he carried himself . Almost a kid like us while we were in school.... but we all respected his position as coach and faculty. He dedicated himself to all of us on the baseball team and the basketball team and he build a find baseball program in a short period of time. He was well educated with a couple of engineering degrees and he was knowledgeable in his field as a Contractor and among other acomplishments he was responsible for building the Engineering Building at CBU in the1980's. To his students at CBC he was Mr.Gillespie, even though while I was there 1966-1970, he was just a few years older than his students. He always seemed to have a gleam in his eye as if he was prepared for your next move.
Fond memories of his blue corvette with a big Orange Country sticker in rear window, Earl was our youngest teacher and one of the rare ones that spoke English as a native language, albeit a true Southern accent.
Watched him and Tommy McMurray basically build the CBC baseball field that is still in use today.
