Bridget Fitzpatrick Barek's Obituary
Bridget Fitzpatrick Barek passed away peacefully Saturday, June 3rd, surrounded by her family at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, after a brief illness. She was born in Liscarney, Ireland on Oct. 3, 1934, the youngest of nine children. After a joyful childhood on the farm with her many siblings, she graduated from high school and moved to England to become a registered nurse.
She wanted to see the world so became a traveling nurse, and her first stop was Toronto, Canada, where. she quickly met the love of her life, Geza Barek. Geza was a fun-loving Hungarian man, and within six months, they were married.
Very soon they were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Margaret, Laura and Stephen. They moved to the United States, became American citizens, and Geza worked to build a wonderful company, Advanced Coldforming. His son Steve and son-in-law Brent have built the company to new heights.
After retiring, Geza and Bridget took trips all over the world until Geza was diagnosed with lung cancer. They bought a beautiful farm in Ripley, TN, where they enjoyed raising cattle and living the farm life. After Geza passed away, she decided to move to the Trezevant Manor in Memphis. Soon her life was filled with lovely women friends. They enjoyed happy hours and going down to eat in the Bistro. She had always taken care of her husband and now her life was full of friends who laughed and cried with each other. She was loving life! Bridget was a stylish and witty woman, full of charm. She volunteered at the Woman’s Exchange and West Clinic for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Geza Barek and her grandson Ryan Edwards. She is survived by her children Margaret (Darold) Russell, Laura (Brent) Ragin, Steve (Kristen) Barek and many grandchildren: Maggie (Grayson) Grisanti, Connor (Britney) Ragin, Garet (Emily) Ragin, Taylor Edwards, Bridget Barek, Grace Barek, and Sabrina Barek. She also has 2 wonderful great grandchildren Liam Ragin and Maddox Ragin.
A visitation will be held at Trezevant Manor from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12th. A celebration of life will follow in the Chapel from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., then a reception from 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
