Dr. Brenta Glascock Davis' Obituary
Dr. Brenta Glascock Davis was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 6, 1936, to the late Charles and Archie Glascock. She passed away at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee on May 31, 2023, after a brief illness. She lived a full life of 87 years, and was proudest of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a sister, Charline Glascock. She is survived by her two sons, Jerrall Crook, Jr. (Libba) of Nashville and Charles Crook of Tampa, Florida; grandsons, Paul Crook (Susan), Matthew Crook (Cleveland), Ben Crook (Natalie) of Nashville, and Carey Crook of Tampa; granddaughter Kaley Robinson (Christian) of Waco, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Henry and Rosie Crook.
Dr. Davis was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) with a degree in medical technology. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Memphis. She was a faculty member at UTHSC for thirty years, served as president of the Faculty Senate and as a Faculty Counselor to the University of Tennessee system president. Dr. Davis served as Chairman of the UTHSC Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences for many years, and before her retirement served as acting Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences. She was the author of several textbooks and many professional articles in the field of clinical laboratory sciences and was a featured speaker at many professional meetings.
Dr. Davis served as national President of the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and secretary of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. She was a member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. She was a member of the Travellers Rest chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Prudence Hall chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonies. She was also a member of the Middle Tennessee Genealogy Society and a lifelong member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After moving to Brentwood to be near family, she lived at the Heritage of Brentwood where she enjoyed many new friendships and being an active member of that community over the last fifteen years. She was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church and the Robert I. Moore Sunday School class.
A private family graveside service and burial will be held in Memphis, Tennessee at Memorial Park Cemetery on June 10, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Dr. Davis to be made to the Medical Laboratory Science Support Fund at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
