Brenda Kay Benson Rubio, 60, of Memphis, TN, went to see Jesus on September 8, 2012, while surrounded peacefully by her family. Brenda sacrificially and unconditionally loved. She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Jerry Franklin Rubio, their three daughters, Laura Rubio Phillips and husband Michael; Julie Rubio Baldridge and husband Adam; and Rebekah Mai Rubio; their five grandchildren, Isabel Anne, Iris Elizabeth, Adam Stephen, Jr., River Kathryne and Evangeline Rubio; her beloved parents, William Eugene Benson and Kathryne Jeanne Ford Benson; her sister, Susan Benson Rubio and husband Ronn; double-first nephews, Greg Rubio and wife Eunhee, David Rubio and wife Becky, and Seth Rubio; four grand nieces and one grand nephew. Brenda was born in Memphis, TN and graduated as Miss Harding from Harding Academy in 1970. She attended Harding University in Searcy, AR, where she earned a degree in business. While at Harding University, she married her junior high school sweetheart, Jerry. Their three daughters were the start of Brenda’s mission to teach children about God’s love. Brenda’s passion and love for young children was a gift from God that led her to a 25 year teaching career. Hundreds of children adored “Miss Brenda” because of her sweet, fun-loving nature; their lives were forever changed. “Miss Brenda” taught 4K at Harding Academy. She was named “Teacher of the Year,” and with Miss Pat Bowie she co-founded and directed Little Harding (Early Childhood program). “Miss Brenda” retired from Harding Academy in 2009. Brenda was a long-time member of White Station Church of Christ. She taught many many children’s Bible classes, as well as organized and led children’s worship for many years. Her mission was children; mission accomplished. We love her and will miss her but know we will be with her in God’s time. Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. at White Station Church of Christ on Colonial Rd. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the White Station Church of Christ sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to HopeWorks and Agape Child and Family Services.
