Brenda Parris Maples' Obituary
Brenda Parris Maples, 60, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at The Regional Medical Center following an automobile accident. Brenda was a graduate from Middle Tennessee State University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career in law enforcement in 1975 with Memphis Police Department and retired 2003 with the rank of Lieutenant. She was the first female appointed by the Governor to the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission and the first female to serve as Chairman. She was appointed by both Democratic and Republican Governors, serving four terms. Brenda also served as President of the Law Enforcement Alliance of America, which is a national organization for law enforcement and victim rights. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, James B. Parris and Joy Storie Parris and is survived by her sisters, Jamie Parris and Mary Miller (Dan); nephews, Marcus and Matthew Hindmon; loving family, Ray Maples and Sandra Cooper (Travis); grandchildren, Hayley Elizabeth Arnold, Travis Dylan Cooper, and Shelby Leigh Cooper; great grandchildren, Luke and Cael Arnold; and life long friend, Lisa Tennyson. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 12 p.m. until the service begins at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. in Fulmer Cemetery in Harmontown, MS.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”
