Aunt Bonnie’s voice was like a welcoming blanket of southern calm, easing you into a different time with each syllable. From childhood I have memories of her shelling peas from the farmer’s market with my mom; leading the 4th of July parade, setting a unique costume standard as a member of the Brookside Drive gang; and relating comments from strangers about her unique hairstyle. Fun times. Truely a village of parents and friends.
During a visit to Northern Virginia, We ended up going to the Udvar-Hazy Museum. We passed several antique cars on the way and met up with dozens more in the museum parking lot for a PA car club rally. They both were like little kids in a candy store. “Didn’t so-in-so have a car like that?” Both pointing in multiple directions. After an hour in the parking lot, we got to the museum and stumbled into an exhibit about her relative Roscoe Turner, leading to more stores of childhood exploits. We closed the museum without seeing half of it.
