My father was a Deacon at Oakhaven Baptist Church, and was on the committee to search for a headmaster for our new school, Oakhaven Baptist Academy. The committee visited and met with several men prior to meeting with Mr. Green. I remember my father coming home after the first meeting with Mr. Green. My mother asked: “How did you like this one?” My father said to us: “We’ve found the right man and our new school is going to be in good hands. He’s the one.”I remember Mr. Green’s first talk to the members of our church. He told about himself – the story of his life. I remember that he didn’t brag about himself – he also told us about instances in his life where he felt that he had made mistakes, or had not been as successful as he had wished. But even at my young age, I remember thinking that I should pay attention to him, because he was a person who showed that we could all learn and better ourselves from the lessons we learned along the way.He was such a kind man, and he truly was the man to helm our new school.I send my warmest thoughts and condolences to Mrs. Green and their families.kindest regards,Cindy (Pickle) Campione Daughter of Elzie and Marie Pickle OBA Class of 1977 Tampa, Florida
