Bobby Gorman's Obituary
Robert Edward Gorman “Bobby", a beloved grandfather, father, brother, uncle and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 10, 2024, at the age of 77. He passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side singing one of their family’s favorite songs, “The Doxology”. He was preceded in death by his parents Lila Rhodes Gorman and Troy Edward Gorman, and his beloved favorite nephew Wiley Gorman. Bobby grew up in Corinth, MS, graduated from Ole Miss, and lived in Germantown till he died. He held several jobs throughout his life, but his favorite and most rewarding was being a father, an activity he undertook with full strength and commitment.
Because Bobby abided in Christ, he was loving, joyful, kind, and gentle. A faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church for almost 40 years, Bobby devoted countless hours to coaching softball and water balloon fights and helping in the “Young Warriors” ministry. When not in Memphis, he could usually be found in Pickwick eating catfish and teaching everyone he knew and loved how to water ski. His patience was unparalleled. He made it his mission to make you feel loved and special, because he knew the love of God in Christ Jesus. Some of his greatest joys were to wrestle with his grandsons and watch them play sports and to hear his granddaughters play the piano. Long lunches, calling to check in or chat, reminding us of Philippians 4, these were just a few of the things he really enjoyed. Not a day went by that Bobby’s family didn’t know they were thought of and loved! He approached every day with grace and an attitude of gratitude.
In addition to his two daughters, McKenzie Hendricks (Nathe) and Cassie Nash (Matt), he enjoyed 8 grandchildren, Nathaniel David Hendricks Jr, Palmer Mosley Hendricks, Robert Ferris Hendricks, Noelle Grace Nash, Eleanor McKenzie Nash, Annalee Joy Nash, Matthew Ryan Nash Jr, and Benjamin Robert Nash. Also left to cherish his memory include his brother, William Rhodes Gorman “Bill” (Renee) and 3 nieces, Alison Gorman Greenberger (Mark), Ainsley Gorman Burch (Jason), and Gresham Gorman Grisham (Ben).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Crosspointe Baptist Church Global Missions fund. Services will be held on Saturday, October 26 2024, at Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN. Visitation will be in the Fellowship Hall at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral at 3:00 pm.
"...to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21
