Binford Peeples' Obituary
Binford Hardy Peeples, age 91, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 15, 2018, at Trezevant Manor in Memphis, Tennessee. Binford was born on January 19, 1927, in Eupora, Mississippi to John Lee Peeples and Hattie Lee Gatlin Peeples. He graduated from Eupora High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After honorable discharge, he pursued his love for learning, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi, a master’s degree from Florida State University, and a doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky. In 1955, he began his career as Comptroller at South Georgia College. Two years later, he transitioned into what would be his life’s work as Professor of Management at Memphis State University (now The University of Memphis). Dr. Peeples’ friendly and engaging personality, passion for teaching, and unique teaching style captivated many of his students, fellow faculty, and community members, resulting in scores of life-long friends. He quickly earned tenure at the university and also served as faculty adviser for the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity and the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. Away from work, he enjoyed time with his family, gardening, classical music, the theatre, and world travel. He loved caring for birds, especially yellow singing canaries. After university retirement in 2000, he became a successful agent at Crye-Leike Realtors. He also served as a board member of the Lowenstein House in Memphis. He married Charlotte Nadine McCharen (deceased, July 2010) on Christmas Day, 1953. He was a member of the West Shady Grove Church in Eupora, Mississippi in his youth and later joined First Baptist Church and Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis. He is survived by his children, Jason Lee Peeples and Anna Peeples Kazemba; daughter-in-law, Kerry Dunnam Peeples and son-in-law, Mark Edward Kazemba; grandchildren, Jacob Dunnam Peeples and Lauren Elizabeth Kazemba. He was genuinely interested in everyone he met and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation the evening prior, Friday, July 27, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
