Billy Hall Smith Jr's Obituary
Billy Hall Smith Jr, 73, of Nesbit Mississippi passed away on September 28, 2020. Bill was born on November 25, 1946 in Pulaski, Tennessee and was preceded in death by his parents Billy Sr and Sarah Hunter Smith. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Barbara Brown Smith. He leaves behind two children; Billy Smith III (Jessie) of Collierville, TN and Raegin Martin (Nat) of Nashville, TN as well as four grandchildren (Hall, Ruth Anne, Lucy Jane Smith, and Sloane Martin). In addition, he is survived by two sisters Claire (late Horace) Elliott and Lynne (Jack) Cunningham.
Bill grew up in Pulaski, Tennessee where he attended Giles County High School and graduated in 1964. He proceeded to attend Middle Tennessee State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1968. Bill went on to serve in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1974.
A lifelong car enthusiast, Bill was a member of the North Alabama and National Street Rod Associations where he cultivated many lasting friendships and honed his craft of classic car restoration. Bill was also an active member of the Methodist church where he developed his strong faith and servitude. He looked most forward to spending time with family, telling a good story, and enjoying a Braves game. Bill never met a stranger both personally and professionally. He had a gentle heart and kind spirit and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Olivet United Methodist Church in Pulaski, Tennessee or Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
