Billie Jenkins Murphy's Obituary
Billie Jenkins Murphy of Memphis, Tennessee passed away September 12, 2023.
Billie was born in Albany, Georgia April 23, 1921 to William and Emma Owen.
Her family moved Boston, Georgia where she attended Boston High School and Shorter College.
Billie married Joseph Louie Jenkins in 1939 and raised 4 children. Louie passed away in 1989 and she married Bill Murphy in 1998.
Music was a very special part of her life. She was the organist at Trinity Baptist Church in Whitehaven, at Ridgeway Baptist Church, and later at Kirby Woods Baptist Church. She was also an accomplished piano teacher. She was inducted into the Amro Music Educator Walk of Fame in 2015. Billie enjoyed traveling and spending time with family especially reunions in Boston.
Billie was preceded in death by her youngest son David. She is survived by her husband Bill Murphy, daughter Jayne Clark, sons Jim Jenkins and Bill Jenkins as well as a host of Grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023 with services beginning at 1:00 PM at Covenant Baptist Church located at 3170 Old Houston Levee Road, Collierville, Tennessee 38017. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
In lieu of flowers family asked that donations be made to donor's home church of charity of choice.
