Bill (Billy) Harper's Obituary
Bill (Billy) Harper, 84 of Cordova, TN, passed away on February 28, 2022 peacefully in the comfort of his own home.
Bill was born on March 10, 1937 in Ocilla, GA, to Early and Miriam Harper.
Bill graduated valedictorian from Irwin County High School in 1955 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was a successful entrepreneur in Memphis, Tn and active with the Memphis Touchdown Club, The Liberty Bowl, AAU Lady Celtics, and AAU golf. His passions were coaching youth sports in the Memphis area & The Georgia Bulldogs.
Bill enjoyed his weekly lunches as Master Grumpy with several of his closest friends at TJ Mulligans, socializing at The Memphis Bop club, talking sports & politics with anyone who would listen, following athletics for the University of Georgia, taking to-go dishes from family gatherings, watching The Andy Griffith show reruns, growing his tomatoes, watching the birds attending first cousin reunions in Amelia Island, Fl. and watching his grandson Miles Jr. play baseball.
Bill never met a stranger. He was a man of God who loved his family, friends, country, and Georgia Bulldog football (Go Dawgs).
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Miles and Shelly Harper (Bartlett, Tn), grandson, Miles Harper, Jr (Bartlett, Tn), granddaughter Morgan Hopkins (Memphis, Tn), 3 great grandchildren (Memphis,Tn), sister, Kathy Harper (Sylvester, Ga), cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Drew Harper, his parents and his brothers, Wayne, Rondy, & Gary Harper.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 10 at 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a donation to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in his name.
