Betty Pyeatt's Obituary
Betty Hunt Pyeatt, 81, passed away on January 23, 2011, with her loving family at her bedside. She was born August 7, 1929, in Judsonia, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Lola Hunt; her brother, Donald Lee Hunt; her sister, Donna Mae Hunt; and a daughter, Lynn Elizabeth Pyeatt. Betty graduated from the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She served as President of LeBonheur Club, 1984-85, and was a member and past President of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was also a founding member and first President of the Memphis Salvation Army Auxiliary. Betty was a member of the Mid-Day Study Club and St. Luke’s Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the church pantry. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, tennis, and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wayne Woodruff Pyeatt; her daughter, Sarah Pyeatt Black (Bobby) of Memphis; her son, Robert Ewing Pyeatt, II (Libba) of Candler, North Carolina; and five grandchildren, Jason Pyeatt Black (Memphis); Michael Harrison Black (Birmingham); Elizabeth Bouchelle Pyeatt, Robert Ewing Pyeatt III, and John McKee Pyeatt, all from Candler, North Carolina. There will be a visitation at St. Luke’s Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, the Salvation Army, or Crossroads Hospice.
