Betty S. Mahaffey's Obituary
Betty Stewart Mahaffey from Kirby Pines, died June 10, 2015, in Memphis, TN, at the age of 91. She leaves her son, John W. Mahaffey, and her daughter, Leslie Mahaffey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Ed (Edwin) K. Mahaffey, in 2012. Betty was born in 1923 to Allan and Sadie Stewart in Memphis. She attended Treadwell & graduated from Tech High School in 1941, where she met her sweetheart, Edwin (Mahaffey Brothers Tent & Awning Co). After their marriage in June 1941, she worked for the family business, while Edwin was in the South Pacific for WWII. In the 1950s, they created Mahaffey Communications & later, Mahaffey Message Relay providing mobile phone & pager services in Memphis. Earlier, she was a member of the Kings Daughters & Sons, Second Presbyterian Church, and Ed & Betty were quite active in Square Dancing & Challenge Dancing. For the past 20 years, she was very active in Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church where she volunteered in the library & with the Missions Committee. Visitation is at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 24th from 4 to 7 pm. The funeral is Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11am at Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1665 Germantown Rd, Germantown, TN, 38138, with a luncheon to follow.
