Betty Jane Mills Lewis' Obituary
Betty Jane Mills Lewis, 64, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on October 5, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at Methodist Germantown Hospital. Betty, born June 24, 1960, was the daughter of Morris Hawkins Mills and Mary Kathleen Boldin Mills. She graduated from Briarcrest Christian High School in 1978 and earned her Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Baylor University in 1981.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved parents, who were a guiding presence in her life.
She is survived by her two children: Benjamin Hunter Lewis (Jennifer) and Lynden Rebekah Lewis, who are grateful for her perpetual over-preparedness which has aided them in this time of grief; her four grandchildren: Emery Kathleen Lewis, Addison Lou Jones, Hawkins Alexander Jones and Aeli Lynn Lewis, who will deeply miss cooking, singing, shopping, crafts, and games with their “BB”; and her sister and niece: Marianne Mills and Kara Anderson. Betty was devoted to her church community, and was renowned for her hospitality, kindness, and thoughtfulness, especially when celebrating those she loved. She was a brilliant technologist who used her expertise to advance public good through her professional work with organizations such as the Memphis/Shelby County School System and the US Postal Service. As a loving mother, grandmother and friend, Betty will be deeply missed.
In life and in death, Betty found peace and comfort in Christ.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
