Betty L. Jewett's Obituary
Betty Lockridge Jewett, 87 of Germantown died Wed. Dec. 6th in Memphis TN. Ms. Jewett was born in Augusta County, Virginia August 4,1930 to the loving parents of Howard and Adele Lockridge. The Lockridge's owned a farm in Virginia and raised a family of 3 boys and 3 girls. Betty was the middle child. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bobby Lockridge, sister Margaret Ewing and Betty’s husband Matt Jewett.
She is survived by her brothers Billy Lockridge, Ronnie Lockridge and her sister Nancy Henderson all from Virginia. She also leaves her son J.R. Witt, her daughter Patt Hardaway (Cris) and grandchildren Robbie Witt, Lauren Witt and Trevor Hardaway in Memphis, TN. She also leaves her faithful friend and companion Bob Tvedt from Memphis.
Betty put herself through college midlife at the University of Memphis. She later became the Vice President of Human Resources for Catherine's Inc.
She was a loyal member of Water Christian Church and rarely missed a Sunday. She loved to play bridge and entertain and had a God given gift of hospitality. Her guests would say she had the ability to make them all feel so special when she hosted.
Betty had a warm and generous spirit and never forgot a joke.
Betty loved to travel and traveled all over the world. But it was her travels to see the Lockridge family in her home state of Virginia that she loved so much. She traveled to Virginia often even in her later years with her good friend Bob.
Betty’s funeral service was at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Dec. 8th where family and friends came to celebrate her beautiful life. The service was officiated by Rev. Jerry Muncy. Betty was laid to rest beside her husband Mathew Jewett. Her daughter Patt officiated the family graveside service.
