Betty Clarice Hatcher's Obituary
Betty Clarice Farmer Hatcher was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on November 26, 1935 to James Monroe and Annie Clarice Farmer who preceded her in death. Her loving husband Milton Hatcher, Co-founder of Calvary Rescue Mission, and her son, William (Bill) Milton Hatcher also preceded her in death. Betty, at the age of 87, passed away on June 20 during a family reunion in Quitman, Arkansas.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Hatcher, her granddaughter, Katie Anne Hatcher, and her precious dog Mitzi of Byhalia, MS.
She is survived by her brother Jimmy Farmer and his family members, son David (his spouse Mary Farmer and their children James and Sarah Fisher), Sarah’s husband Bobby and their child Maddie Jo. She is survived also by Jimmy Farmer’s son, Steve (Spouse Vicky Farmer).
Betty is survived by Sue Ann Hatcher (wife of deceased son, Bill) and their children and family members:
Grandson, William Milton Hatcher, Jr. and his wife Jenna Hatcher (their two children Shiloh and Liam).
Granddaughter, Amanda Hatcher Mandel, her children Gabriel and Ariel; her partner James Grisham and his child, Skylar. Granddaughter, Chelsie Hatcher Defillo, her children Mila and Hannah; her partner Chris Ault. Betty’s legacy continues with many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Nelli Vargas and her daughter Ellie Vargas (Betty’s great great great granddaughter); Oscar Vargas, and great granddaughter, Charmari Vargas, and great granddaughters Cayzia and Ru. Betty is survived by numerous other family members.
Betty worked various jobs over the years: the IRS, Real Estate, and Walmart, but her job at Calvary Rescue Mission has been her constant love since she and her husband, Milton, founded the ministry.
Betty’s life meant and means so many things to countless people. She was a prayer warrior, a hero, a fighter, a friend (no one was a stranger to her). She and her husband cofounded Calvary Rescue Mission on South Third Street in Memphis, TN. The mission is for homeless men; to hear the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to gain a fresh start.
A strong woman, a wonderful woman, and (yes) she was all that and more, but to Kathy and Katie she was a “spit-fire” with that special type of dry humor. She was also to them one of the funniest people they had the pleasure of knowing, a grandmother who gave the most lovng hugs, and had the most inspiring words. She was a force to be reckoned with.
Overall, what we all knew was that Betty was an unwavering woman of faith and commitment to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was also known for spreading God’s Word and trying to save as many of God’s children as she could with every breath.
Betty was a faithful member of Central Church for 54 years. She loved her family, her beloved dog (Mitzi) and above all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
