Betty Turnipseed Cummings' Obituary
Betty Turnipseed Cummings went to her eternal home on
June 30th 2026 at the age of 97. Betty was born in Eutaw,
Alabama, on July 3rd, 1928. Her parents were Thomas and Lois
Turnipseed, both deceased. Her family moved to
Aliceville, Alabama before she became of school age. She
attended all 12 grades in Aliceville and graduated in 1946.
She and her husband moved to Memphis in 1950 and
remained there for the rest of their lives. She is
predeceased by her husband Ben in 1918 and her son
Dan in 1975. She is survived by her son David Bruce and
his children Benjamin, Grace and Madeline Cummings.
Betty was a member of Park Ave-Audubon Park Church
since 1954. Betty loved her church and her church family.
She was an usher at the Orpheum for 30 years and also
worked at the Renasant Convention Center. Betty
attended Memphis University in her 30's, earned a
Master's degree in education and taught 18 years before
retirement. Betty was an avid supporter of Saint Jude
Hospital and the Southern Baptist Church. Her church away
from home was Pleasant Hill Baptist in Sapps, Alabama.
A memorial service will be held in Sapps, Alabama at a future date.
