With profound sadness we announce the passing of Betty H. Burke, our loving and devoted mother, June 30, 2020. She passed at her daughter’s residence in Memphis, Tennessee, at age 87 surrounded by her family. She was born in Che Read Obituary
I remember Betty's warm heart and hospitality to the Stansh family all these years. So many Thanksgiving meals with the extended family and Betty working away in the kitchen preparing and cleaning up.Family was special to Betty! After the men and children went to bed, Betty loved to visit with the ladies-sharing stories, laughing and catching up.
Her quick mind and memory amazed me! One time she was trying to teach me and 2 others to play bridge. When we all had a few cards left, she proceeded to tell each of us just what cards we probably had left due to the cards we had and had not played! Who could figure that out and remember? Betty could!
Betty and Lynn kindly hosted me several times when I was researching the family tree. Betty knew who to call (even if not related to Lynn's side of the family) how to get there and the best time of day to travel. She was Google Maps of the Memhis area before Google!
I will remember Betty's warm heart, quick wit, beautiful smile, welcoming hugs, service to the church, love of her Savior and family. She was a jewel!

Oh how I love Betty and Lynn. That's really her name - "Betty and Lynn"... they were a unit. I have loved them since I was a little girl in the 1960's. She loved with her whole heart. I have wonderful memories of Thanksgivings in Memphis where she hosted as many family members who could gather with incredible grace and ease.
She was the quintessential hostess.Her answer was always "yes" to overnight visits. 6 weeks before Lynn died we were there for the Liberty Bowl. They invited us to stay over for their new Year's Eve party... until after midnight!!! We already had return flights and declined. I regret that so much now. We couldn't have kept up with them that late to be sure!
Betty and I had countless conversations at her kitchen table. I can hear her saying my name and calling me honey. I received grace and wise counsel from her time and again. I love her so. Love her laugh and her closed-mouth chuckle. Admired her determination and uncanny ability to navigate Memphis streets.
I am so sorry to learn of Betty’s death. She and my mother, Betsy Halfacre, were lifelong friends. I have fond memories of them together and their bridge adventures. Please accept my condolences. Fondly, Betsy Halfacre Friedl
Too numerous to just pick one — we were more like sisters than cousins. Been thinking all day about how determined she was for me to learn to sew and trying her best to teach me. I can still see that old floral sundress she made me sew, take out and try again until it was perfect to meet her standards. Needless to say mine was never perfect!! My thoughts and prayers are with Lauren and Lynn and families.’ I already miss her!

Betty was always so kind to me. She made me feel like part of the family, as have you all. I really liked her and will surely miss her. I am so sorry for your loss. I am thinking of and praying for all of you.
