Bette Thompson Winchester's Obituary
Bette Thompson Winchester, 87, of Memphis passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at her residence. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Winchester was a longtime communicant of St. George’s Episcopal Church where she served as a vestry member, Sunday School teacher, and Board member of St. George’s School. She was Past President of the Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese of Tennessee and on numerous occasions served as a representative of the Diocese at the General Convention. She was a past member of the Junior League, Les Passees, Brooks Art Gallery and the Women’s Exchange. Mrs. Winchester was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, R. Lee Winchester; sister, Marion Hunter; and is survived by her daughter, Robin Winchester Howard of Soddy Daisey, TN; sons, Richard L. Winchester, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Cordova, John Thompson Winchester and his wife, Karen of Germantown; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, January 23, 2012 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at St. George’s Episcopal Church-Germantown with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the local Alzheimer’s Association, 326 Ellsworth Street, Memphis, TN 38111, St. George’s Episcopal Church, 2425 South Germantown Road, Germantown, TN 38138 or to the charity of donor’s choice. Funeral services are entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. “Behind the Stone Wall”
