Bessie Mae Lane Nathaniel's Obituary
Our beloved matriarch, Bessie Nathaniel, transitioned peacefully on June 5, 2025, in Memphis, TN, at the age of 99.
Born on September 15, 1925, in Lake Cormorant, MS., A life well-lived and beautifully poured out, she embodied grace, strength, and wisdom throughout her nearly ten decades of life.
Bessie Nathaniel was known for her unwavering faith, tender heart, and the quiet strength that carried her family through generations. She was the loving wife of Wesley L. Nathaniel, Sr., and together they built a legacy rooted in love, family, and faith.
She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and love through her children: Carolyn Williams (Rufus), Beverly Alexander, Wesley L. Nathaniel, Jr. (Cassandra), Ava Taylor, Eileen Collier (Anthony), her 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters Effie “Bunch” Burnett, Fannie Ware, Jean Smith, and Ruby Carter and a host of extended family, church family, and dear friends.
A true nurturer and pillar of her community, she was deeply involved in ministry at Mt. Pisgah M.B. Church, Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, and Tabernacle of Praise Christian Church, where she served faithfully as Sunday School teacher, Diaconette, and ministry leader. Her positive energy and smile brought joy and encouragement to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, and though she has departed this earthly realm, her spirit and example remain deeply woven into the fabric of our hearts.
We are grateful to have been blessed by her presence. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and her legacy continue through each of us.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” – Psalm 116:15
