I work at St. Jude in the lobby where Ben volunteered most recently. He always gave me a sticker! I am so glad that I put one on my computer stand to see every day and another on my bathroom mirror to remind me to smile every day as I prepare for work. Ben never told me he was a Dr. or any of the many other wonderful things I read in the obit. He was very humble and oh boy! did he love those children! Nothing was more fun than hearing Donald Duck all morning and squeals of delight from children- some too young to even know who Donald Duck was! But Ben made then smile and laugh and he did it in such a quiet, gentle way and when the children weren't around, he sat very quietly in his beautiful bow ties, contemplating who knows what and I was frequently drawn to go chat. I have missed him since his retirement from St. Jude and I will very much miss him knowing that he has passed from us. Please know that he was loved by so many people as just the "Duck guy," or "happy face sticker man," but he made a HUGE difference in the lives of children and parents who were happy to see their children laugh and play with him. He certainly made a difference in my experience at St. Jude and I'm saddened by his passing. However, I know he is in the arms of Jesus sharing in the glories of Heaven. He deserves heavenly rest! I will pray for your family and of course, for my sweet friend, Ben.
