Barbara Jean Thompson's Obituary
Barbara Jean Thompson, 87, passed away peacefully March 22, 2024 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, TN with her family by her side. She was born March 31,1936, in Durant, MS, to Raymond James DuBois and Vera Delna DuBois.
She was a 1953 graduate of Humes High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of
Memphis, where she also received her Masters degree in Special Education in 1977. She married Andrew “Paul” Hathcock January 5, 1955. They had two children- Paula Renee Loebel and Andrew Paul Hathcock Jr. (Drew) and spent 36 incredible years together.
After Paul’s passing she married Michael James Rupe June 11, 1992 and later married Paul James Thompson February 14, 1999. Paul and Barbara spent 24 years traveling and enjoying the beautiful life they built until Paul’s passing in 2023. She was a proud resident of Frayser, TN and Olive Branch, MS the majority of her life and moved to Collierville, TN in 2022 to be closer to family.
Barbara was a Memphis City school teacher and found great joy in teaching her elementary and special education students. She loved working in her yard, celebrating the holidays, reading, and crossword puzzles. She had many accomplishments throughout her life, but her growing family who she loved fiercely, was the greatest of them all. Her family misses her terribly and will always remember her for the wonderful,
inspiring woman she was. Her legacy will continue to live through them.
She is survived by her 2 children Paula Renee Loebel (John), Andrew Paul Hathcock Jr. (Vicki) along with 2 bonus daughters Julie Moffitt (Steve) and Cyndy Alvarado (Marty). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren Lauren Jordan (Patrick), Lindsey Hogue (Brent), Leslie Hathcock, Stacy Hathcock, Kelsey
Parrish (Ben), Mauri Staten (Craig), Lauren Lynch (Russell), Kari Lahmon (Michael), Andy Moffitt (Kim), and Nicole Ramirez (Anthony), 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Services will be held at Memorial Park Friday, March 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM with visitation preceding at 12:00 PM
