Barbara Givens Swafford's Obituary
Barbara Givens Swafford, a Collierville, TN resident, passed away on June 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Liz Swafford Mulroy, and her husband, Tim; her grandson, Charles “Chaz” Thomas Mulroy; her sister, Kay Givens Bentrum; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Travis and Louise Givens; her brother, Travis R. Givens; her daughter, Charla Jean Swafford; and her husband, Charles Kenneth Swafford.
Barbara was born on May 31, 1939, in Town Creek, AL. After high school, Barbara began her career at the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. It was there that she met her husband, Ken. They married in 1960 and lived in Huntsville. Barbara continued to work on and off for several years taking time off to raise her children. In 1998, she and Ken relocated to Memphis, TN, to be closer to her daughter’s family.
Barbara had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring National Parks, especially hiking trails. She also loved gardening and spending time with her family especially her grandson. Her absence will be deeply felt.
The visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
