Barbara S Conaway's Obituary
Barbara Ann Schaeffer Conaway of Memphis, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. She was 87 years old.
Born on February 18, 1939 in Memphis, Barbara was the third and youngest child and the second daughter of Dorothy Mae Childress Schaeffer and Oliver Turner Schaeffer, Sr. Throughout her long and beautiful life, she was known for her love of animals, sense of humor and her faith in God. She and her husband frequently traveled and enjoyed life together. She had her own unique fashion style and wore jewelry that matched her fashionable ensembles. She had an intelligent, quick wit and she dearly loved to laugh.
Her parents, sister (Jeanine Schaeffer Quinn) and brother (Oliver Turner Schaeffer, Jr aka Sonny) preceded her in death as well as her husband Van Cavett Conaway with whom she was married approximately 50 years.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews.
She will be interned at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the mausoleum. The flag color to follow is red.
Barbara will be greatly missed.
