Babette "Betty" Relyea's Obituary
Babette “Betty” Relyea, 88, passed from this life on May 31, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis with family at her bedside. She was born June 18, 1935, in Augsburg, Germany.
As a devoted and loving mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother, Betty’s pride and joy were her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A beautiful, selfless soul full of extraordinary courage, independence, faith, intelligence, and unfathomable quiet strength, she persevered as a brave childhood World War II survivor, widow, and cancer survivor. Betty was a gifted homemaker and talented hand crafter, who gave a part of herself in each of the many gifts she gave. She always emphasized the importance of family and leaves a legacy of great kindness, generosity, and love for her family to carry with them.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Mark) Isaminger and Mary (Hani) Rashed; grandchildren, Heather (Philip) Ashley, Hanna (Aaron) Marr, Brigette Relyea and husband Quentin Schubert, Bobby Relyea, Justin Relyea, Trevor Isaminger, Sharif Rashed, Erika Relyea, and Gigi Rashed; great grandchildren, Everett Ashley, Malcolm Ashley, Desmond Ashley, Isaac Marr, Dahlia Schubert, Annalise Marr, and Violet Schubert; sister, Erna Seitz; and extended family in Germany.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Relyea, and her sons George Relyea and John Relyea.
A private graveside committal liturgy will be held, and a Celebration of Life is planned, date TBD.
