Dr. Audrey Roberts' Obituary
Audrey Nadine Roberts, PhD, died suddenly at her home in Germantown, Tennessee, on July 31, 2024. Audrey was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, and attended college at the University of Kansas. Dr. Roberts received her doctorate in virology, immunology, and biochemistry in 1959, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Her postdoctoral research was completed at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Dr. Roberts joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis in 1961. By 1966, Dr. Roberts was a tenured professor and later served as Deputy Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Chair of the Graduate Education Committee. Dr. Roberts conducted research during her tenure at the Health Sciences Center and was primary author on over twenty-five publications. Her professional memberships included Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Sigma, Sigma Xi, American Society for Microbiology, American Association of Immunologists, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Following retirement from teaching and research, Dr. Roberts became a licensed real estate broker and continued this career for over eighteen years.
Dr. Roberts always devoted time for friends and family, caring for both her parents during their senior years in her home. She cherished her friendships and never hesitated to help friends and neighbors.
Dr. Roberts is survived by her only niece, Pamela Willman, of Woodstock, Georgia, a grandnephew and family and a grandniece and family. She is now at rest with the Lord and will forever by missed.
A private service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
