Aubrey Forrest Cox Jr.'s Obituary
Aubrey Forrest Cox, Jr.,70, of 775 Echles Street, Memphis, TN 38111, died
February 9, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife, Lucille Willingham Bradley; his daughter, Sarah Kathryn Cox of Astoria, NY; his step-daughter, Emma Lucille Schultz of San Francisco, CA; and his step-son John Matthew Schultz of Atlanta, GA.
A lifelong Memphian, Aubrey attended Graves Road Elementary School and
Westwood High School, graduating in 1968. He played football and was also
involved in the theatre department. He received his bachelor's degree from
Memphis State University where he was a member of PI KAPPA ALPHA
fraternity.
After a few years working for the state of Tennessee as a counsellor for
emotionally disturbed children, Aubrey was hired by the federal government as a U.S. Treasury Agent. He honed his skills as a bank examiner for several years before being recruited by National Bank of Commerce, eventually becoming Senior Vice-President, Loan Review.
He retired after 25 years from his office overlooking the river at 1 Commerce Square. Aubrey loved fishing. He went trout fishing often on the White River and Little Red River in Arkansas. He also loved the house he rented each year at Seagrove Beach, FL where he went deep sea fishing and stared at the gulf for hours. Aubrey was a bird watcher. He could easily name every species he saw in the yard and on the feeders. He especially loved the hummingbirds and eagerly awaited their arrival each year. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, and John Wayne.
