Aubon Garland Ishee's Obituary
Aubon Ishee, 85, of Collierville, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 29, 2023. Known to his friends as Ish, he was a true Southern character who never met a stranger and never missed a chance to tell a story. Ish loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Germantown Baptist Church. He was born in Bay Springs, Mississippi, on July 30, 1937, to the late Cecil and Noel Ishee and was raised on the family farm. Ish graduated from Bay Springs High School in 1957, where he not only attended class but also drove himself and others on the school bus.
Ish is predeceased by his beloved wife of thirty-four years, Martha Bland Ishee, as well as his sister Ruth and brothers Onyx and Sims. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Justin Cash of Lakeland, Tennessee, and Susan and Mark Green of Collierville, Tennessee. As his proudest legacy, he leaves behind five adored grandchildren: Emily, Jack, Andrew, Jacob and Blake. He is also survived by his sister Onita (Jim) Thorton of Bay Springs, Mississippi, and brother Jerry (Marty) Ishee of West Point, Mississippi, two step-granddaughters, Taylor Green of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Hannah (Bin) Feng of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ish was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where is served as a drill sergeant and then as part of an elite military honor guard unit. After serving in the Army, Ish began working for Delta Air Lines in New York City. His career with Delta spanned thirty-five years and brought him to Memphis where he met his wife Martha at Gate 7. He built many life-long friendships while at Delta, traveled all over the world and won several awards for outstanding service to the company. He was also a passionate fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and he never missed an opportunity to wear maroon.
There will be a memorial service in celebration of his life on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Germantown Baptist Church, Germantown, Tennessee. Visitation will take place before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes.
