Aspasia "Pat" Bacopulos Cooper's Obituary
Aspasia “Pat” Ballas Bacopulos Cooper, 92, of Memphis, fell asleep in the Lord June 11, 2017. She was born to Dionysia and George Ballas, who proceeded her in death along with both of her brothers, Tasso and Jimmy, and her Aunt and Uncle, Tom and Helen Ballas who became like second parents after the death of her mother. She was a lab technician at the Veteran’s Hospital, where she met her husband of 47 years, Gregory P. Bacopulos. They were married in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where they continued to be very involved. She taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She was a youth advisor, a member of the Daughter’s of Penelope, a member of the women’s Philoptochos Society, and she sat on the Parrish Board. She loved her church, her family, and her friends. At the age of 46 she returned to college where she earned a degree in Education, and then continued on to attain her Master’s Degree. She tutored children for many years, and worked at Memphis State University as well. She retired and then spent her time volunteering at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, tutoring English, and enjoying her family and her hobbies. After the death of her husband Gregory in 1999, she decided to go back to work, and worked at her neighborhood Walgreen’s for several years. She met, and began dating Donald O. Cooper in 2005, and they were married in 2008. She retired from Walgreen’s, and she and Don spent their time together, until he died in 2016. She leaves her daughters, Dionysia “Stacey” Bacopulos, and Marianthe Bacopulos Pilcher (Derek), six grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and her cousin, who was more a sister, Connie Ballas Stratigos of Atlanta, GA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 14th, at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 PM until 7 PM. The funeral will take place at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday at 11 AM. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
